Living A Fuller Life with Arthritis

Arthros is a small Reading Charity, set up 35 years ago to support local people with Arthritis, through  information on local sources of help and  support,  and  funds for the  provision of aids and appliances.

What is Arthritis?

  • Arthritis is damage to joints following inflammation or injury.
  • The two main types of arthritis are inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis (“wear and tear” arthritis).
  • Inflammatory arthritis includes rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile arthritis, gout and lupus. Vasculitis and scleroderma are also inflammatory conditions but not affecting joints. Nowadays medications can slow or halt inflammation, although significant disability may persist .
  • Osteoarthritis is treatable with painkillers or joint surgery.
